Kinder Morgan Withdrawl Letter May 2016

The Milford Board of Selectmen met with representatives of Kinder Morgan/Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) and hosted a Town Hall style meeting to understand the company’s Northeast Energy Direct (NED) project and resident’s viewpoints. The selectmen also organized a Pipeline Task Force to study the impacts on the Town.  After extensive research the Task Force determined that TGP had not adequately documented the need for NED and that the impacts to the town outweighed the benefits. Subsequently the selectmen voted to oppose the NED project. The town has remained very involved in two additional pipeline groups – The New Hampshire Municipal Pipeline Coalition (NHMPC) and the Nashua Regional Planning Commission’s Energy Facilities Advisory Council. The NHMPC is a group of 13 communities working collectively to gather information and oppose the pipeline.

The NHMPC has met with our US Senators and Representatives, the Governor and many State Senators, Representatives and other officials to voice our concerns and opposition to NED. The NHMPC has also requested that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) combine the various proposals for additional pipeline capacity in New England into one consolidated review. These projects constitute alternative solutions to the same potential need in our New England region and must be viewed together collectively.

The Town of Milford will be filing with FERC for Intervenor status separately and collectively with the NHMPC. We remain opposed to the NED project and believe that there is strength in numbers through our work with the coalition of Southern New Hampshire towns.
