KEYES PARK SECURITY – PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Town of Milford
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KEYES PARK SECURITY – PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Keyes Park is the perfect place for an individual or family to relax and enjoy Milford’s recreation facilities.  Many people patronize Keyes for the enjoyment of tennis, barbeques, swimming, picnics, and ball games.  Increased park usage also includes some who have less benevolent motives.  Unfortunately, the behaviors and actions of these individuals can negatively affect other park users.

The town has implemented a proactive plan in an effort to preserve the positive qualities and recreational opportunities at Keyes for all community members.  The multi-faceted plan is anchored by a stepped-up presence of law enforcement and the use of security cameras.  In addition to increased police patrols, park rangers will also be seen throughout the day as we enjoy the summer season.  We encourage park users to interact with these civil servants and to seek them out should you need assistance during your park visit.

To bolster the effectiveness of these patrols, the town has enacted a disciplinary policy that includes stiff suspensions for infractions of park administrative rules, town ordinances, and state laws.  In particular, behavior that negatively affects the experiences of other park patrons will not be tolerated.  To support the efforts of staff and to encourage compliance, a 3 strikes suspension schedule has been adopted.  A first offense will result in a 30-day suspension, a second offense in a 60-day suspension, and a third offense in indefinite suspension with reinstatement by appeal.  This administrative procedure does not preclude immediate expulsion and criminal investigation as determined by Milford Police Department procedures.

As the spring and summer season’s kick off Recreation staff will be available to answer your questions, provide assistance and of course offer a myriad of activities and programs.  Keyes Park is open from 6:00 am – 10:00 pm for the enjoyment of park patrons.   Ultimately, town residents hold the greatest responsibility in preserving the park experience through continued use and enjoyment of the park and taking advantage of all of the recreation opportunities Keyes offers.
