Field Training Officers

Field Training Officers

The purpose of the field training program is to transform newly hired Police Officers to the Milford Police Department, into competent and constructive officers.  The field training program has been developed with the ultimate goal of improving the overall effectiveness of the department.  This program is varied in length depending on the newly hired officer’s prior experience.  Provisions for additional time and training will be made should the need arise.  Although, some newly hired officers may be certified in NH prior to their employment with the Milford  Police Department, it remains necessary to determine if the officer can translate those skills in to becoming a successful member of the Milford Police Department.

The Field Training Officer (FTO) is a department member who has been selected and trained to deliver the field training program to a probationary officer.  The FTO evaluates the probationary officer on a daily basis in order to monitor progress and identify problem areas.

Sergeant Pelletier is the Field Training Coordinator and oversees the departments program and Field Training Officers.  The FTO’s are an asset to the department and help to shape the future of the agency.
