Social distancing is a term used by Public Health Officials that encompasses a group of actions applied to stop or slow the spread of a highly contagious disease. The objective of social distancing is reducing the probability of contact between infectious (known or unknown) persons and those not infected.

Social distancing looks different for everyone:

  • Working from home instead of at the office
  • Online Educational Platforms
  • Visiting friends and loved ones electronically
  • Postponing conferences and large meetings

IF you have to go out,

  • Staying at least 6 feet away from other people
  • Only going out for:
    • Essential Medical Appointments
    • Food
    • Exercise

Social Distancing reduces the rate of disease transmission and can stop an outbreak. Coronavirus is spread through droplet transmission which makes social distancing practices that much more important as this is a highly effective method to prevent transmission of this disease. This was last practiced on this large of a scale during the Influenza Pandemic of 1918.
