NHRS Classifications – employees are classified into two groups: all regular employees are classified as Group I, and Police and Firefighters are classified as Group II.  This is important to know because Group I retirees are not entitled to any medical subsidy from 2011 going forward but Group II retirees still are.

  • Group I – Group I retirees are no longer entitled to any medical subsidy from 2011 going forward.  The employee/retiree in this category is responsible for the entire premium.  Group I - Employee and Teacher Application Packet
  • Group II – Group II retirees are still eligible for medical subsidy.  The medical subsidy is an amount that NHRS contributes towards the retiree’s health insurance (currently $375.56 for anyone under 65 and $236.84 for over 65 – these amounts are doubled for a 2-person plan).  Group II employees having medical deduction from his/her retirement check, must complete the NHRS Retirement Annuity Deduction Authorization form, which will be forwarded to NHRS  Group II - Police and Fire Application Packet
