The Milford Police Department K-9 Unit is assigned to the Operations Division and was established to provide highly trained teams of both a K-9 and a Handler, to assist officers in various aspects of law enforcement including tracking missing persons or suspects, criminal apprehension, building searches, evidence recovery, narcotics detection, and officer protection.

Our current K-9 Unit consists of K-9 Officer Mike Barritt with K-9 Mako. K-9 Officer Barritt began his police career with the Mont Vernon Police Dept. in 2012, and he was hired full time by the Milford Police Department in 2013. K-9 Officer Barritt became our department's K-9 Officer in 2016, where he and K-9 Barry served Milford until December 2021.

In 2021, the Milford Police Department purchased K-9 Mako, a German Shepherd, who is now certified with K-9 Officer Barritt for Patrol and Tracking.

The K-9 Unit performs standard patrol duties, in addition to responding to a variety of calls where the K-9 Unit may be needed. K-9 Officer Barritt and K-9 Mako continue to train on a regular basis with the New Hampshire Police K-9 Academy.
