Please join us for the commission’s 4th Saturday Hike on June 23rd at the Granite Town Rail Trail. The hike will start at the DPW station located on South Street. This hike will be about 4 miles one way ending at the trail head in Brookline. There will be cars to shuttle hikers back to the DPW station or you can make your own return arrangements. There are road crossings at Union, Armory and Melendy Roads if you wish to stop sooner. Dogs on leashes are welcome, however space may be limited in the available cars.
The rail trail extends for 7.5 miles between the DPW station on South Street in Milford and Lake Potanipo in Brookline. The two town conservation commissions have coordinated events on this trail for years; including a Ghost Train Rail Trail 15 mile and Ultra race in October. There are a few trail heads – two in Milford at the DPW station and at Armory Rd, and two in Brookline at Lake Potanipo and a parking area on Rt 13 just south of the Brookline/Milford town line.
Directions to the start at DPW station at 289 South Street: Rt 101 bypass to the exit for Rt. 13. Turn right onto Rt 13N at the bottom of the ramp onto South Street. Go about 1 mile and the DPW station will be on your left. Parking is located to the town side of the buildings. Parking Coordinates : 42°49'31.58"N 71°38'53.31"W
